Blog 14

During this course I have learned a lot of new things about myself.  Corey and Corey (2010) describe that in order to be good counselors, we need to be aware of who we are and our reactions to things so that we can effectively help others.  They also gave an awesome analogy.  Corey and Corey (2010) say that people all the time go to a physicians help when they are physically ill but when someone is psychologically ill, they hesitate to go see a counselor.  It is important in our profession to get rid of this stigma as well as when problems go wrong in our live to find help.  If we do not find help for ourselves then how are we supposed to help others.  We need to be the example for others and to help ourselves before we help them through their lives.  By allowing myself to help me physically, psychologically, socially, and spiritually I will be able to help my future students.  I will also be able to instill in them the value of taking care of oneself.
Dreams can be very fun and also very scary at times.  Corey and Corey (2010) go over some of the importance of dreams and exploring the meaning of them.  For myself, I have very unique dreams but I only have remembered a few.  I remember one when I was in the hospital because I broke my arm.  The doctors put me under so they could fix me and all I can remember was that I was on top of this big huge gold cliff and then I fell off of it.  I was falling for awhile and them I landed into a wooden boat.  To this day I do not know what that means and I don’t know what it is trying to tell me.  I can understand that dreams can be important where the unconscious brain is telling you something but I have never found the significance in my dreams.  I do recognize the awake dreams that you have for your future life.  Those dreams can drive someone to do something great in life.  Dreams can really drive people.  It is important to have students dream so that they can figure out what they want out of life.  Daring to dream is really important especially for younger kids.  I believe that it helps them want to be something special even if they do not reach their dreams someday.  Knowing this information about dreams can help students be all that they can be.  It can also help guide them in their future lives.
