Blog 10

This chapter for me was a flashback of last semester in Career Development.  Like in the Corey and Corey (2010) book as well as the Career Development class they both talked a lot about similar things.  As I found from last semester that career development is important at all ages and its theories need to be used so that students as well as adults can find their true calling.  As some might remember that I had to choose a possible career when I went to college, which was math.  When I got to college and started to ask questions about my life and what I wanted to do, I found that I choose my degree or future career too soon based on what people wanted me to do as well as people wanting me to choose something before I went to college.  Well needless to say that I took certain psychology classes and loved them and find my new degree of psychology with a counseling concentration.  It takes a lot of thought and effort in choosing your future career and all of the things in this chapter can help students figure out what they want to do.  This information from this chapter related to career development can prove very useful in my future career as a high school counselor.  The certain aspects of finding ones passion and to take time to ask the right questions can help students fully grasp what they want to do in life.
The other part of this chapter had to deal with the place of recreation in life (Corey & Corey, 2010). I think this is very ironic because I am actually about to do a group facilitation on the importance of taking time for yourself.  It is important to do this so that you can have a better life.  Having leisure time for things that you want to do can help improve happiness, motivate a person more, and even keep your body healthy.  If one does not take any time for oneself, then their life is bound to be full of stress and possible unhappiness.    It is important to take time for yourself so that you can continue to get work or school responsibilities done so that you can succeed in life.  This information can be very helpful for me in the future as well as my clients because in order to help my students, I need to help and take care of myself so that I can effectively help my students.  I can even give this information to students so that they can make sure they take some leisure time for themselves to stay on top of their game.
