Chapter 10: Work and Recreation
I have had quite a few jobs so far
in my life. Some of them were food-related, service-related, child-care, and
also some dealt with working in a factory. I currently still work at a subway, which I
have been doing for about seven years now. I plan to work on moving forward
with a career in the future. This of course, takes a lot of time and effort. I
very much enjoy the opportunity I have today at school to work towards this
goal in my life.
I admit that sometimes I find myself
having trouble with balancing work and leisure time. My time management skills
do need some work. Part of this I believe is that I was used to working all the
time when I was manager of Subway that I kind of have forgotten what it’s like
to be in school. It has been about four years since I was in undergrad. Many
times, I feel overwhelmed between dealing with my current job now and dealing
with my schoolwork. I am really hoping that I will become more accustomed to
this by the time next semester rolls around. It’s almost as if I am “testing
the water” right now, trying to see how I can manage my time at hand.
I would say that I am satisfied with
my career choice and path. I just need to learn to focus a little more. That’s
probably my biggest challenge at the moment. I could also work on being a
little more confident in my classes. In reading this chapter, it talked about possibly
improving in the way of not being afraid to speak up in class. This problem
could very well carry on into the workforce in the future. I strive to get away
from my shyness and be more active in class. I did notice that last week in
class I was less shy then usual and was more daring to participate. Usually I
act this way when I have developed some level of confidence at some point
during the day. In order to continue this, I realized I just have to put myself
out there no matter how awkward or embarrassed I might be. I may find that it’s
really not that terrible like last class when I read my poem in front of the class.
If I can put some of these methods
into practice, such as time-management, focus, and confidence, I think I could
really improve and this could help me not just now, but also in my future
career.
